I've had an odd time of it, for sure! I'm actually a desktop user that purchased Apprentice HD. exe file then… So… hopefully these problems will be properly fixed at some point, but this seems to be working at least so far. I guess that should be done for just about evey. Likewise, mplay also failed to start up until I changed its compatibility settings. However, it wants to do this on every startup, which is quite annoying… This problem was also magically solved by setting the compatibility mode for hmaster.exe to Vista SP2. When running Houdini after this, it demands to obtain Apprentice licenses on startup and actually runs (in HD mode) if I do it. Thus I added the following lines to $HFS\houdini\Licensing.opt: licensingMode = localValidator localValidatorDir = C:\Users\miika Finally I got three greens and OK in the License Administrator (I may or may not have reinstalled the licenses at this point). I decided to try and ditch the server stuff and go with local licensing instead following … For whatever reason, the license manager could not access the file C:\windows\keys\license.local so I also switched the directory for the license file. The HD licenses themselves installed nicely. Plugging to a physical network didn't help. The problem is that the license manager refused to install the SERVER key, and the server code kept changing every now and then. First of all, to avoid constant crashing with hkey.exe and sesinetd.exe, I changed both their compatibility settings to Windows Vista SP2. Hopefully this will help someone (or me, if I ever need to repeat this). My configuration is a Windows 7 64-bit over wifi. Here's what I ended up doing (not sure if all parts are relevant or if I just got lucky). Ok, I had some major licensing problems with Apprentice HD as well, but it seems I finally got it working. In case you opt for Licence server use File->Manually Enter Keys… and copy each key - SERVER - LICENSE Generic Houdini-Master-NonCommercial - LICENSE Generic Render-NonCommercial - LICENSE Generic Houdini-Escape-NonCommercial if needed at all to the input fields and that should be it. If you also feel the need to use Houdini Escape repeat the steps and now it's sufficient to choose only the LICENSE Generic Houdini-Escape-NonCommercial and add this to your licence file. Choosing Houdini master should give you three lines, which you copy into the licences file, save it and it should be ok. Go to, run hkey.exe and enter the server name and its server code you find on the server information tab into the web form. In that case C:\WINDOWS\keys\licenses is the place where you (better hkey should) save your licence information. Hi Azhul and Craig, if you have no hserver & sesinetd running, it's not a problem yet, that means only you have chosen Apprentice Licencing during installation. By routing the power in series through both HIGH beam headlights, each light burns at half brightness. The DRL relay contacts close which provides battery power from the EXT LTS fuse through the right HIGH beam headlight and then through the left HIGH beam headlight before reaching ground. If those conditions are met, and the BCM determines there’s daylight, it provides ground to the control coil on the DRL relay. For the DRL system to work, the IGN must be in the RUN position, the parking brake must not be activated and the transmission must not be in PARK. Thirty seconds after you start your vehicle with the headlights off, the body control module (BCM) checks the voltage on the ambient light sensor. Here’s how that GM daytime running lights system works. GM uses a few different daytime running light schematics, but most use a series wiring method that divides battery voltage in half through series wiring. The experts at Capitol Subaru are equipped to handle such problems.Repair Topics > Lights > Headlights > Headlights > GM daytime running lights don’t work GM daytime running lights don’t work Diagnose and fix GM daytime running lights Instead, your car likely has some electrical problem that needs to be fixed. If the fuse wasn't blown, or the replacement fuse doesn't work or blows again quickly, it's likely that it wasn't just a one-time issue. Put in a fuse with the same amperage rating and hope that it works! If the interior filament is broken, the fuse will need to be replaced. Once you've removed it, hold it up to the light. Be sure that the vehicle is turned off with the keys out of the ignition, and then remove the fuse with pullers or a pair of pliers. The Solutionįirst, find your vehicle's fuse box and check the owner's manual to see which fuse is for the dash lights. These problems could still cause the fuse to blow, and they may persist even after a fuse replacement. However, it could also be due to deeper wiring issues. Most likely, this will be due to a blown fuse, which is designed to protect the circuits in case of a surge. If the dash lights are completely dark, it's safe to assume that the problem is somehow electrical. The Symptom: Dash Lights Are Dead The Cause And, since electrical current supplied to the spark plugs is what creates spark, your engine may stop running if the alternator gives up the ghost entirely. A failing alternator is bad news for a number of reasons! It may not allow your battery to recharge enough, making it slowly drain to the point where you'll need a jump start to get things going. The Solutionīring your Subaru to a service center as soon as possible. If the alternator is failing, it may not be able to steadily supply enough current to all the components. In addition to recharging the battery, the alternator is in control of running the electrical components in your vehicle. Most likely, flickering dash lights are due to problems with the alternator. No, your Subaru isn't trying to throw a rave. The Symptom: Dash Lights Are Flickering The Cause Because of this, we recommend taking your Subaru to the dealership so that expert technicians can take care of it. It often involves removing parts of your vehicle's dashboard. The SolutionĬhanging these light bulbs isn't as simple as changing headlight or tail light bulbs. When one of those bulbs burned out, that part of the dash would lose its illumination. But in older vehicles, the instrument cluster was backlit by light bulbs. Nowadays, individual LEDs will often make up the dash lights, so it's incredibly uncommon to see part of the dash that's larger than one of these lights go dim. This is a problem that is generally seen on vehicles that are a few years old or older, and that's due to the kind of technology used. The Symptom: Dash Is Partly Dark The Cause "The presents are a small thing but it puts a smile on their face. The Bolton boxer added: "That's what Ramadan is all about, it's about giving and sharing your time with everyone, especially people who are suffering and going through a hard time. Utopia (when one has everything, at any moment, for no expenditure) prompts declines in responsibility, effectiveness and awareness of social dependence and finally, as Dr. The life skills necessary for survival faded away. The young mice never observed such actions and never learned them. Though they looked inquisitive, they were in fact, very stupid.īecause of the externally provided abundance of water and food, combined with zero threats from any predators, the mice never had to acquire resources on their own. These mice, however, could not cope with unusual stimuli. All appeared as a beautiful exhibit of the species with keen, alert eyes and a healthy, well-kept body. They never involved themselves with others, engaged in sex, nor would they fight. Calhoun called these individuals “the beautiful ones.” Their time was devoted solely to grooming, eating and sleeping. Other young mice growing into adulthood exhibited an even different type of behavior. About the final stages of the mouse utopia, Kubań writes, Jan Kubań, a personal friend of mine from Warsaw and a Polish biocybernetician, considers Calhoun’s experiment “one of the most important in human history.” He created The Physics of Life website where he elaborates on the meaning and significance of the ethologist’s work. The last thousand mice to be born tended to avoid stressful activity and focused their attention increasingly on themselves. Deviant behavior, sexual and social, mounted with each passing day. Aberrations included the following: females abandoning their young males no longer defending their territory and both sexes becoming more violent and aggressive. The turning point in this mouse utopia, Calhoun observed, occurred on Day 315 when the first signs appeared of a breakdown in social norms and structure. But after 600 days, with enough space to accommodate as many as another 1,600 rodents, the population peaked at 2,200 and began to decline precipitously-straight down to the extinction of the entire colony-in spite of their material needs being met with no effort required on the part of any mouse. “I shall largely speak of mice, but my thoughts are on man,” he would later write in a comprehensive report.Īt first, the mice did well. It was a mouse utopia.Ĭalhoun’s intent was to observe the effects on the mice of population density, but the experiment produced results that went beyond that. He provided all the food and water they needed and ensured that no predator could gain access. Calhoun, best known for his mouse experiments in the 1960s when he worked for the National Institute for Mental Health.Ĭalhoun enclosed four pairs of mice in a 9 x 4.5-foot metal pen complete with water dispensers, tunnels, food bins and nesting boxes. One of the more famous ethologists in recent decades was John B. This is an area illuminated by ethology, the scientific study of animal behavior. Perhaps the human/pet welfare state works because one of the parties has a brain the size of a golf ball or a pomegranate. It seems like a win-win, so maybe a welfare state can work after all. In fact, my loving domination is a condition for the free stuff. My two rat terriers get free food and free health care, though I am not only their provider, but I am also their “master” too. Moreover, for the most part, they seem to like it. Our personal pets live in a sort of welfare state. Readers should view what I present here as a prod to thought and discussion and not much more. Because they require knowledge beyond my own, I cannot offer definitive answers. These are fascinating questions that I am certainly not the first to ask. What would happen if animals in the wild could count on human sources for their diet and never have to hunt or scrounge? What if, in other words, we humans imposed a generous welfare state on our furry friends? Would the resulting experience offer any lessons for humans who might be subjected to similar conditions? Not having to work for food and shelter sounds appealing and compassionate, doesn’t it? Studies have shown that panhandling animals have a shorter lifespan. It transforms wild and healthy animals into habitual beggars. The National Park Service’s website for Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan advises, To what extent do the mouse utopia lessons apply to humans? Signs in national and state parks all over America warn visitors, “Please Don’t Feed the Animals.” Some of those government-owned parks provide further explanation, such as “The animals may bite” or “It makes them dependent.” Calhoun, best known for his mouse experiments in the 1960s.
